Find Your Why & Put It To Work

Identifying our WHY enables us to act with intention and purpose.

Define your purpose and clarify your goals. “The WHY is a tool that can bring clarity to that which is fuzzy and make tangible that which is abstract… The WHY can guide us to act with purpose, on purpose.” – Simon Sinek.

“Imagine if every organization started with WHY. Decisions would be simpler. Loyalties would be greater. Trust would be a common currency.” – Simon Sinek

The Personal WHY

When you put your purpose on paper, it empowers you to actively reflect on your choices and see if you can live a life closer to your calling. It is the key to enjoying what you do in life and getting off the hamster wheel. You can break the cycle of stress and overworking yourself and instead feel pride and purpose in what you do. You can make decisions that will lead to both happiness and success.

That is how he discovered the need to “Start With Why”. It is the ultimate reminder that we can always evaluate where we are at and realign with our purpose!

Utilizing Your Personal WHY

  • Be fulfilled EVERY DAY! “I love my job” should be the standard that we live our lives. We should wake up happy to do the work ahead of us. Applying your WHY to the job you choose to do can help you live a life where you don’t feel stuck on a hamster wheel! You might need to change jobs or change how you do your job and who you do it with. Identifying your WHY can lead you to a career where you feel pride and purpose in what you do.
  • Conscious decision-making. When you know your WHY and can maintain focus on where you want to go in life, making decisions can be simpler and clearer. The choice that will lead to both happiness and success will naturally stand out.
  • Stay in the zone. Figure out what can be delegated or removed from your to-do list that isn’t in alignment with your zone of power. When you’re not stressing yourself out over tasks that others can do better or faster it always leaves the door open to improvement.

The Corporate WHY

A corporation’s WHY Statement can be found when we discuss the deep and impactful way a company affects its customers. The way the corporation influences and helps the customer thrive. A Find Your WHY Workshop is a great opportunity for employees and management to come together and explore stories and ideas that drive the company!

Utilizing The Corporate WHY

  • Give your mission real purpose! Use your WHY statement as your mission statement. Post it up so everyone can see it and act on it. Keep your statement in the heart of all your business plans and actions.
  • Have accountability. Regularly ask employees if they have any ideas on how the company can act with more purpose and celebrate these suggestions. Alternatively, you must give employees a chance to give anonymous feedback on whether or not a company is acting according to its WHY.
  • Tell your story. Add videos of the stories that inspired the company’s WHY. This is a great opportunity to connect with your customers and tell them why you do what you do with real-world examples!
  • Cultivate a culture. Create a group of people with a common set of values and beliefs. Hire people whose personal WHY meshes with the company’s WHY.
  • Market with inspiration, not manipulation. Use your companies purpose statement to create content and ad campaigns designed to inspire your customers. This is where the art of differentiation begins. This is where you create your tribe of loyal followers.
